About the Edition
John Otto Roney (1816-1871) immigrated from Denmark to New York, and became a mate and later captain of east coast schooners. He married Harriet Robinson and, like many families attached to the sea, they longed for a chicken farm. John purchased a turkey farm and moved there to Libertyville, Illinois in 1852. But, within a few years, they moved back to the seacoast, settling at Thomaston, Maine, and John returned to the sea (he was lost at sea in 1871). Descendants and relatives lives in New York, Illinois, New England and elsewhere.
